Being in an auto accident can be a life-changer! That is why it is so important to protect yourself as well as others while driving a vehicle. So many people have called our office to open a claim for injuries and upon doing our due diligence learned that the responsible party of the accident had no coverage or the coverage was minimal. Even with California’s Compulsory Financial Responsibility Law (California Vehicle Code [CVC] §§16000-16078) which is to ensure that drivers and owners of vehicles are financially responsible for any damage or injury caused by a traffic accident and to remove financially irresponsible drivers from the highways, many California drivers and owners of vehicles have little to no coverage. Here at the Law Office of Eleanor L. Miller, Inc. we encourage and remind all readers of this post and all of our clients to review your auto liability policies to fully understand what coverages you have available under your own policy, and if it is a minimum “liability only” policy, to consider increasing your coverages and to make sure you have uninsured motorist coverages available to you. In addition, if the vehicle you insure has any value, to consider purchasing comprehensive and collision as well as rental coverages under your own policy so that in the event you are involved in a traffic collision you can immediately begin repairs of your vehicle’s damages and obtain a rental vehicle until the repairs are completed.
